32 week update

Along: 32 weeks

Size of baby: LBMH is the size of a honeydew - 19 inches long and 4.5 pounds. He's getting better at perceiving light and even closes his eyes when sleeping and opens them when he's awake. This week, he's also developing his immune system so he can fight infections when he comes out.

Total Weight Gain: 22 pounds - back on track gaining about a pound a week. Apparently half a pound goes straight to the baby each week from here on out.

Maternity Clothes: Yes, definitely. I'm starting to get tired of cycling through my options (though I'm very grateful to Paige, who is letting me borrow a TON). At this point, it's not worth buying a bunch of new things, so it looks like I'll just need to get creative for the last 8 weeks.

Gender: It's a BOY! Reed Lewis Hill

Movement: He's started doing this thing where he makes my entire stomach shake back and forth. Either he's banging to get out or partying in there, but he's definitely active. His movements tend to be at the top left side of my stomach, leading the doctor to think he's most likely head down. This also means that he gets nudged up under my ribs fairly often, which is a little painful.

What I miss: Nothing, really. I'm feeling pretty good and am just ready to meet our little boy.

Cravings: Nothing out of the ordinary - still cereal, water, applesauce, fresh fruit, etc. I'm losing my appetite for fast food and super sweet desserts (except for some really delicious cake balls that Rachel made for Reed's shower - yum!).

Symptoms: Heartburn and nausea, which apparently are related. When I went to my 32 week appointment today, my doctor said that I'm having more episodes than normal and that I should start on Zantac to ease both. I'm glad to finally have a solution, mostly because they're more annoying than anything.

Best moment of the week: Celebrating Reed and our growing family with some of my closest friends and our families. Everyone was so generous, and we have so many sweet, thoughtful and useful gifts for him. The nursery is already overflowing. So much love! (I promise I'll post photos from both showers soon.)

Looking forward to: The last few weeks of just being me, Erik and Tex. We've had a good thing going for the past three-plus years, and there are lots of big changes coming. I'm looking forward to spending some quality time together - going out to dinner, maybe seeing a movie, sleeping in - before Reed gets here.
