Stats: At his 6-month appointment, Reed was 16 lb., 15 oz. (40th percentile); 27.5 in. (75th percentile); and head circumference of 17 in. (30th percentile).
Milestones: Reed is getting more and more mobile. He rolls and scoots around while on his back, so it's probably not long before he starts crawling. I'm in no hurry, though. It seems like crawling is a turning point. He'll be in to everything and hard to keep in one place. Hold out, little man!
He also had food for the first time. Daddy was going on his fishing trip to Arkansas, so we had him try rice cereal a few days before the 6-month mark. More about that in a minute...
Behavior: He's still a well-behaved baby, but he's definitely getting more of a personality. He flirts with any girl (but especially his momma) and giggles and smiles a ton. He is starting to learn cause and effect and will pull on hair, toys, anything in your hand. It's so fun to watch his preferences and personality develop. (But the hair pulling isn't fun.)
Sleep: He's still doing really well with sleep and hasn't regressed at all. Some nights, we skip the last evening feeding and he sleeps from 7:30 at night until 7 or 7:30 the next morning.
Clothes: He still fits in some 3-6 months, but he's nearly only wearing 6 month and some 6-9 month clothes. It's tricky to make sure he wears all of his cute outfits before he outgrows them. Thank goodness we don't have a girl. I'd never make it through them all!
Food: He's still eating 5-6 bottles a day at 6 ounces each. Right before his half birthday, we introduced him to "food" with rice cereal. Erik and I got Little Man all set in his Bumbo and mixed up some cereal and milk. As soon as Erik offered Reed the spoon, he dove for it, put it right in his mouth and took it in. He loved it! He ate all of the cereal pretty quickly, and it was so messy. Cereal was everywhere.
For the past few days, he has been getting a small amount of cereal for "dinner" and a final bottle before bed. Rookie mistake: we started by feeding him a bottle first and then cereal before bed. Both times we did that, he woke up at 1 a.m. Not cool. Poor little guy needed more to get him through the night. But when we flipped the bottle and cereal, he was good to go.
Likes: Reed loves going to Baylor football games and has been to all but one home game so far this season. He also still likes his monkey bouncer and LOVES his jumper, where he can make it light up, play with the toys and make it play music. This month, I've loved a few extra minutes of snuggles with him before I start working in the mornings. And, his daddy really liked introducing Reed to the moose at Cabela's during a trip to Dallas.
The third generation of LPR gets to work.
Dislikes: Reed really doesn't dislike much. During our Sunday School Halloween party, though, we found out he's not a big fan of crafting (we tried a handprint ghost on a pumpkin...fail) or sudden/loud cheering (when the guys yelled during the Baylor game).
Favorite Moments: His first Baylor Homecoming! That's a separate post, but he loved going to the parade, seeing the KOT float, tailgating and going to the game. He was such a trooper! Reed also had his first official haircut with Ms. Basy. With a little help and distraction, she had that wild mop looking so good!
Most Challenging: I just can't think of anything that's been too challenging. We've hit a good place where we're in a routine and are better equipped to handle the ups and downs. (Much better than those exhausting first few months where we had no idea what we were doing.) We try to take things in stride, and Reed is good at adjusting.
I guess the most challenging thing right now is planning ahead. We've had to think ahead and make sure we remember all the gear we need before we leave the house. We've had to adjust, somewhat, to his schedule - though Reed really will go with the flow and is pretty flexible.
Looking Forward To: Reed's first Halloween! Grandma is making him a Baylor bear costume, and we're going to go to the fall festival at church. It will be fun to dress him up and go through the fun Halloween traditions with him. We may even trick-or-treat to a few houses on our street.
Here are some more pics from Reed's 6th month:
And, of course, hanging out with his favorite puppy.
