Nice to meet you!

Dear Reed,

That photo could not be more true. From the moment I first saw you, you stole my heart. I'll never forget what it was like seeing you for the first time. All I could focus on was your little self as they took you over to the warmer and checked you out. Your first little, pathetic cry was the most beautiful sound I've ever heard. It meant you were finally here, you were healthy and you were ours.

Being your momma is the most important and significant thing I have ever done. We are definitely learning as we go, and I know I will make a lot of mistakes. See, I'm a first born, too. I understand better now, more than ever, that first borns, their mommas and their daddies are a team. We will have lots of wins together, but we'll also have some losses. I don't know how to be a mom, so I'm figuring it out as I go. I hope you'll be patient with me and understand.

My little boy, my favorite thing to do is just hold you and dream about what God has planned for your life. You look and act so much like your daddy. I hope you grow up to be like him - a man who is patient and loves his family with all of his heart. He is so good with you and loves you deeply. He holds you so proudly and shows you off to anyone and everyone. You are his most treasured responsibility. We are his whole world, and he makes sure we know it.

So, Reed, as we start this journey together, I pray you'll always know how very much I love you. I know you won't always like me, but I hope you will feel a constant, unconditional love from us. You changed our world for the better, and we can't wait for what's in store. We thank the Lord every day for entrusting us with you.

I love you to the moon and back,
Momma
